How Poor Body Image Holds Us Back

Quick: what’s your usual first thought when you look in the mirror?

How about when you need to shop for a new outfit for that special event or (brace yourself) a new bathing suit for that trip to the beach?

If you find your gut reaction to be anxiety, self-ridicule or embarrassment rather than excitement for your day, event or vacation, there’s a chance that a poor body image is holding you back from weight loss success (not to mention from fully enjoying your life!).

The way we look and feel about ourselves plays a central part in our healthy way of life journey.

"Swimsuit Season" Hoopla: 8 Ways to Keep Healthy Perspective 

The Internet meme is true: to get a bikini body, put a bikini on your body.

Simultaeously, I know not all of my clients are ready to fully embrace that perspective quite yet, and that's okay, too. 

As we take on those extra pounds, we might also be battling a shifting body image as well. We may resist buying the perfect suit while we're still changing sizes. We hope to "make do" or just "get through" this summer with the idea that we'll fully enjoy the beach or pool next year. 

I'd recommend otherwise! Make the choice to not compromise your experience of the warmth, ease and fun this season. Instead, consider these tips to help you feel more comfortable in your skin - no matter where you are in your weight loss journey.
